This is not such a good idea! Why? He is a bud of GW, he will be ineffective.

Tony Blair picked up a second international post yesterday as Arabs questioned whether he would be able to succeed in his new role as a Middle East peace envoy.

The former prime minister is to join the foundation board of the World Economic Forum, which sponsors high profile international conferences at Davos in Switzerland, bringing together figures from politics, diplomacy and industry.

The Davos forum is independent of governments and non-profit making. Its stated goal is to "improve the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas". The next annual Davos gathering will be chaired by Mr Blair in 2008.

Announcing the appointment, the forum founder and executive chairman Professor Klaus Schwab said the board would be "enhanced" by Mr Blair's presence.

Bush isn't finished with Blairs services to the US ,, "yohh Blair bring me a coffee" good boy good boy .. Its no wonder the people in the ME hate America.
But then again, Blair is a master with the english language, his ability to take your wallet and make you feel he's doing you a favour makes him the perfect candidate for ME envoy, while serving the Bush dynasty.

So all he needed was those custom made knee pads? The Arabs will not pay any attention to him, unless of course he has control of purse strings. Cash will make him an intersting voice.

Blair is still getting the helping hands of Bush.

THE American secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, is expected to join Tony Blair’s drive for a settlement in the Middle East when it begins with an intensive round of diplomacy later this month.

Rice and Blair will meet in Lisbon this week to plan a coordinated series of initiatives designed to revive the peace process.

The secretary of state’s involvement represents a boost for Blair, the newly appointed special envoy of the quartet group made up of America, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, in his efforts to bolster the Palestinian Authority and reopen talks with Israel.

It's all about Blairs legacy now, can he pull a rabbit out of the hat by creating some sort of half assed solution between the Israelis and Plaestinians and of course Bush an gain a few brownie points by sending Condi there.

With the simplton overtures being passed around between the Pals and the Jews, it would seem they do not need a ME envoy. They seem to be doing fairly well withoyt his help. Now, why was this noit done earlier?

It would appear the only way Blair got the job was that the US would pay for it.

There are questions emerging over Tony Blair's appointment as the Quartet's [the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia] Middle East envoy.

The uncertainties start with funding, who is paying the bills for the former British prime minister's new job as special representative for the diplomatic grouping?
