View Full Version : Revive The Jordanian Option
Bush and his cronies have mucked up the landscaoe of the ME, time to go back and try something else.
But like the other neoconservative grand designs -- establishing a pro–American democracy in Iraq; weakening the power of Hizballah in Lebanon; spreading freedom in the Middle East; countering the influence of Syria and Iran in the region -- the plans for creating an independent Palestinian state and for building a lasting Israel–Palestine peace, lie in ruins. Since Bush's previous policies towards Palestine have decidedly failed -- and the current one seems doomed to fail as well -- it is time to revive the "Jordanian option." Involving Jordan in the Palestinian issue is the best hope for stability in the West Bank.

I think you're on the right track,, but i think it needs all of the neighbours, Mubaric of Egypt has not been forceful in his critism of the US, afraid to upset the aid coming in, all along selling out his brother and sister nations,
Saudia Arabia's concern is that of close oil ties to the US again turning its head against Arabs, in order to retain the Monarchy, Syria is on the defensive and their words dont have much value,, but yes i have to agree with you it is time they all spoke up, not against Israel but the US.
I think Egypt is about to cut lose, since thye US will be holding up aid to the country. They will have no reason to play Washington's game. If they make enough noise the aid will return just to shut them up.

They belong in Jordan. They are ethnically the same as the Jordanians.

My question would be why would Jordan want to get involved in the conflict with their military?
Jordan, which has signed a peace agreement with Israel and maintains diplomatic relations with it, could establish a military presence in the West Bank
I don't know of any country willing to do that. Would the people of Jordan support a military intervenion?

I am guessing you were talking about Palestinians?

Naturally.
Gotcha! but the article I was reference basically said that since , as you point out, the Plas and the Jordanians are similar, that jordan should play a role in the securing of a solution to the conflict.
I realize that back in the 50's I believe that there was amove to unify Jordan and the Palestinains. So Are you suggesting this as the option to finding a peace in the region?
