absolutely ridiculous.
i was sitting here literally shaking my head in disgust while reading the article.

summary:

FEMA provided trailers for Hurricane Katrina victims. These trailers, under extreme heat and humidity, emitted formaldehyde gases and caused formaldehyde poisoning to their inhabitants.

FEMA received numerous complaints, but deliberately ignored them, because testing for the gases "...would imply FEMA's ownership of the issue."

Since I live in the area and know a bit about this issue, I would say that FEMA is CYA. They said they issued a warning to people with the trailers about the possiblility of the toxins, but people I have spoke with have never received such a warning. The govt is trying to avoid any legal intanglements, meanwhile people are getting sicker by the day and have little recourse, other than going into debate and trying to buy something safe. for most I know that is not an option for them.

All the good news that comes out of the storm area is propaganda, the only people doing well are developers.

Chuq, since I'm stuck up here in the great white north, what's the insiders view of this FEMA thing...I'm not even sure where to begin..unders Homeland security, isn't that what the DOD is supposed to be for?

Who's calling the shots at FEMA, what exactly is thier agenda? US Aid? are they really helping anyone, or is this just another extension of government contracts to make shit loads of money off every disater that hits the US population?

To hear that the only good news is propoganda, and there's very little good news coming out as it is, it's kind of shocking. Where is the revolt from the people? the inqiuries?

I'm not exactly known as a man of the people, but to see this sort of thing go on is pretty disturbing

How far North are you Mindcore?

The government got caught with their pants down and the whole thing snowballed from there.

After FEMA was declared totally incompetent, they put it under the direction of DHS which didn't help a damn bit.

The only time politicians go to that area is for political purposes, but the area is basically fending for themselves because a lot of the earlier problems still haven't been resolved.

You have to admit though, yes there are genuine claims,, but you can bet there has been corruption at all ends of this Katrina, 9/11 and the most recent steam explosion in Manhatten. I dont mean to be unsympathetic but thre will those that smoked 3 packs a day and claim their illnesses to the disasters.
I dont blame them.

Sure you will always find those who will exploit the situation, but so far the major exploiters have been the ones the govt is using to help the people. There is a company in Louisiana that has 10 million dollars to help people return home, to date they have helped 245 families, but yet the CEO, COO and Chairman all got huge bonuses. Are individuals trying to play the system? You bet, iyt is human nature. The town I live in, the downtown area, is still in rumble; about a third of the town is not being touched, no money. There are still houses with the blue tarp on the roof. There is little good news to report.
